Shore Excursion from Naples Port to Pompeii, Positano and Sorrento
Our shore excursions begins just under your ship in Naples port, where our english speaking driver will pick you up at 8:00am, unless you prefer a different time. He will take you to Pompeii where you can visit the ancient Roman city destroyed by Vesuvius with an eruption in AD 79, engulfing Pompeii with cinders and ash. The remains of Pompeii were discovered around 1750 and it seems like the eruption of Vesuvius freezed the city life.
Positano, with its beach, is one of the most popular resorts on the Amalfi coast. Positano enchanted John Steinbeck and he wrote that Positano is a dream place and when you are there it is not quite real but when you have gone it becomes real.
Positano lies on cliff over the sea and is characterized by the yellow and green majolica tiled dome of the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Spiaggia Grande, the beach of Positano, where you will have lunch in a nice restaurant.
Sorrento lies on a cliff at the southern end of the Bay of Naples and has been famous in Europe since about three hundred years ago. For example Casanova and Goethe, just to name a few, stayed in Sorrento.
The hearth of Sorrento is Piazza Grande and Marina Grande with its fishing boats is very picturesque and the nearby Marina Piccola is an ideal port for boats to Naples and Capri.
